This one day governance workshop introduces governance to the ethnic communities and will provide insight into being a board director on not for profit, commercial and public sector boards. The workshop will provide an overview of the fundamentals of governance, myth bust common misconceptions about governance and provide practical learnings for attendees.
This workshop is for ethnic communities new to governance or looking to secure a board appointment or to progress a career in governance.
This workshop will provide:
Understanding of what the role of a board director is and is not.
Understanding of the legal and compliance framework that applies to governance roles in companies and other legal entities.
Understanding about finances from the board director perspective
Practical information to assist attendees in securing a governance role.

Presenters
Ziena Jalil
Ziena is a board member for the Asia New Zealand Foundation, Education New Zealand, Toka Tū Ake Earthquake Commission and DNA. She is Chief of Staff at Te Pūkenga.
Recognised by Campaign Asia Pacific as part of its 2020 Women to Watch, a group of 40 outstanding women in the Asia Pacific, Ziena is a sought after MC and facilitator, and a keynote speaker on leadership, Asia business, international education, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
A former New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Singapore, Ziena has received several international awards for her work promoting New Zealand trade and education in Asia, where she was based in various roles for 10 years.
Ziena is a member of New Zealand Institute of Directors, Global Women and Asia 21, and she holds a Master of Arts (First Class Hons) in International Relations and Politics, a Bachelor of Communication Studies, and Diploma of International Trade.
Siddhartha Sharma
Siddhartha is a Chartered Fellow of Governance New Zealand and the Chartered Governance Institute and is Legal and Compliance Professional. He is a qualified Chartered Secretary and a Law Graduate from Delhi University.
Siddhartha is a former member of the Governance New Zealand board and an Emerging Member with New Zealand Asian Leaders. Siddhartha is currently managing Corporate Secretarial Service Line for NZ with TMF Group based in Auckland. Siddhartha Sharma came to New Zealand in 2014 and is now well settled with his family in New Zealand.
Julie Hardaker
Julie is a Chartered Fellow of Governance New Zealand and the Chartered Governance Institute, and is a lawyer, governance professional and the former Mayor of Hamilton from 2010 - 2016. She has practiced law for 25 years and operates her own law firm in Hamilton.
Julie is President of Governance New Zealand, Chair of Orchestras Central Trust, deputy chair of Bay Venues Ltd, board member of Common Good Foundation, Chair of Women on Boards, trustee of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, and former chair of the Environmental Protection Authority. Julie holds other government and private sector board roles.
Julie has first class LLB (Hons) and MMS (Hons) from Waikato University and is also a member of Global Women. She regularly presents at conferences on governance topics, women in leadership and local government and is passionate about supporting women achieve their governance.
Angus Ogilvie
Angus Ogilvie is a chartered Fellow of Governance New Zealand and is an accountant in public practice. He holds a Master of Business Studies (Hons) degree in Management from Massey University, a Master of Arts (Hons) degree from the University of Auckland and a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accountancy) from Massey. He is currently the President of the New Zealand branch of CPA Australia, one of the largest accounting bodies in the world. He is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a Chartered Management Accountant.
Angus chairs the Education and Professional Standards Committee (EPSC) of Governance New Zealand and is a member of the Audit, Risk & Finance Committee.
He is a strong advocate of advisory boards for SMEs and coordinates several in his professional role. He serves on a number of boards himself including the General Trust Board of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland. He is an honorary life member of the Auckland Business Chamber.
