New Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa (SMC)

As we are aware, a new points system was implemented for the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Resident visa on October 9, 2023. This revised points system exhibits notable differences in both its structure and calculation, although certain baseline requirement criteria remain unchanged in this context, we offer vital information that we believe will be highly beneficial to you.

To qualify for the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) application, it is essential to accumulate points from at least one of the categories listed in the blue section below. If an applicant successfully acquires all 6 available points in the blue section, there is no need to refer to the red section. However, if an applicant fails to reach the required 6 points in the blue section, they should explore further opportunities to accumulate points from the red section.

Regardless of the number of points obtained, there are essential baseline requirements that must be adhered to throughout the application process.

  • The wage threshold will remain unchanged from the previous points system.

  • Applicants must have a job, or a ‘skilled’ job offer from Accredited New Zealand Employer.

  • Applicants must fulfill the minimum standard of English language skills.

  • Applicants (and accompanying family) must continue to meet age, health, character, and national security requirements.
